I was born and raised in Wichita, KS. I was lucky enough to have parents that enrolled me in multiple sports at a young age. I think this served as a good general athletic background that I still use today. As I got older, I focused on soccer and tennis, playing them both in high school and college. After college, I continued with both sports recreationally, "lifting" at 24-hour fitness, and even took up running 5ks and half-marathons in an effort to keep in shape.
Luckily one day while working out in a small gym in Topeka, KS, I was introduced to CrossFit. The owner, who coached the classes in the aerobics area of a YWCA, asked me to come the following week and give it a try. I was hooked almost instantly and loved learning new movements - while completely exhausting myself in short durations. With almost immediate results, I wondered why I had never done this type of workout before. So I abandoned regular gyms and distance running. While traveling for work for the next few years I was able to continue CrossFit at a few gyms on the East Coast before relocating to Denver and discovering CrossFit Eminence.
The natural progression for me was improving my weightlifting technique. I joined the CrossFit Eminence weightlifting classes a few times a week to improve my CrossFit, but soon fell in love with the sport of Weightlifting and wanted to do it all the time. I love the combination of power, speed, strength, and agility Olympic Weightlifting requires. Today, you can find me competing and coaching athletes in both National and Local weightlifting meets each year.
